BOARD SECRETARY/TREASURER

Katie Guardino was born and raised in Pittsburgh (Sharpsburg). She always felt a connection to the military community because she has had family and friends who were part of the military and law enforcement communities. Her father served in the Army during Vietnam and three of her grandparents served. Serving as a working Board Member for Operation Strong Mind, Katie continues to support the overarching community and to give back. She is passionate about helping others through education, support, and empowerment.

Katie attended Slippery Rock University, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. She felt a calling to help others and while at college became interested in social work. She went on to attend the University of Pittsburgh and received a Master's degree in Social Work with a Gerontology Certificate. During college, Katie had the privilege of participating in many different internships. These have included hospitals, a doctor's office for primary care, hospice, and renal failure/dialysis/organ transplantation. She was also the 2009 recipient of The Evelyn B. Amdur Social Work Fellowship in Palliative Care.

Katie is a Licensed Social Worker in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. She works as a social worker for Presbyterian SeniorCare Network, The Willows Nursing Home. She is currently working toward her Clinical Social Work License by completing supervision hours with Colonel (Ret.) Thomas Stokes. Katie’s career aspirations are to apply her extensive knowledge of military culture to enhance the well-being of members of the military community.
