Part of my professional career includes serving as the Co-Chair for the Pennsylvania State Military Behavioral Health Coalition. Our work included reviewing military suicides and what could be done about it and we found that it was challenging to capture specific numbers. Regardless, suicide among veterans continues to happen at an alarming rate. A very significant factor in the prevention of suicide is social connection and I hope that we can raise awareness for the need to partner and take action to help prevent military suicides.
